Can You See Who Viewed Your LinkedIn Profile?
.jpg)
Sometimes. LinkedIn may show a viewer's name and headline, limited profile details, or only "LinkedIn Member." What you see depends mainly on the viewer's profile-viewing privacy setting. LinkedIn says even Premium members cannot reveal the names of people who browse in private mode.
Your own profile-viewing option controls what other people see when you visit them. It does not override the privacy choice of people who view your profile.

What information can LinkedIn show?
LinkedIn describes three possible viewer displays. The amount of information shown depends on the privacy option chosen by the person who viewed your profile.
| Viewer's setting | What may appear to you |
|---|---|
| Your name and headline | The viewer's name, headline, location, and industry. |
| Private profile characteristics | General details such as job title, company, school, or industry, without the viewer's full identity. |
| Private mode | A generic label such as "LinkedIn Member." |
So the answer to "who viewed my LinkedIn profile?" is not always a person's name. A viewer can choose to reveal their identity, show limited profile characteristics, or browse privately.
LinkedIn's profile-view visibility guidance explains these display options and notes that Premium does not uncover private-mode viewers.
Can Premium show private-mode viewers?
No. LinkedIn says private-mode viewers remain anonymous, even to Premium members. A paid account cannot force a visitor to reveal their name or profile details.
Premium may provide more profile-view history or insights than a Basic account, but that does not cancel a viewer's privacy setting. The identity of a private-mode visitor remains hidden.
This distinction is useful when you are comparing profile-view totals with named visitors. A count can include activity that LinkedIn does not attribute to a visible person.
How do you change your profile-viewing option?
Choose how you appear when you view other LinkedIn profiles in Visibility settings. LinkedIn lists three options: show your name and headline, show private profile characteristics, or use private mode.
On desktop
- Select the Me icon at the top of LinkedIn.
- Choose Settings & Privacy.
- Open Visibility.
- Under Visibility of your profile & network, select Profile viewing options.
- Choose the visibility option you want. LinkedIn says the change saves automatically.
In the mobile app
- Tap your profile photo, then tap Settings.
- Open Visibility.
- Tap Profile viewing options.
- Select the option you want. LinkedIn says it saves automatically.
LinkedIn's current private and semi-private browsing guide describes how each option appears to the person whose profile you visit.
What happens when you browse privately?
People whose profiles you view will see a private-mode label instead of your identity. LinkedIn says no other profile information is shared with the member whose profile you viewed when you browse in private mode.
There is a trade-off for Basic accounts. LinkedIn says that if you choose private mode on a Basic account, you will not be able to see who viewed your profile either. A Premium account can browse privately and still access its own viewer list, but it still cannot identify people who viewed it in private mode.
Use the setting that matches your preference. Choose name and headline if you want to be identifiable and want access to the viewer history described for Basic accounts. Choose private mode if hiding your identity matters more than seeing individual viewers.
Why might you not see a viewer's name?
The viewer may have chosen private mode or a semi-private display. The missing name does not mean LinkedIn has exposed that person but hidden the detail from you by mistake.
- Private mode: the viewer appears as "LinkedIn Member," and LinkedIn says their name cannot be revealed, even with Premium.
- Private profile characteristics: LinkedIn may show general details such as company or industry instead of a name.
- Your own settings: LinkedIn says Basic members must choose "Your name and headline" to see viewer history on their own Who's Viewed Your Profile page.
- Account features: the viewer-history details available can depend on the account type. Review LinkedIn's current plan and visibility guidance for the latest account-specific view.
