Can Anyone See Who Voted in an X Poll?

Updated on:
October 17, 2026

No. X says a poll creator and other participants cannot see who voted or which option each person chose. They can see the poll's aggregate results, but the standard poll does not show a named voter list.

That is privacy from other poll participants, not a promise that X never processes account activity. It also does not make the post itself private: replies, likes and reposts around it can still be visible.

Can the poll creator see who voted?

No. The creator cannot open a voter list or connect a named account to a particular choice through the normal poll interface. X's Help Center says participation is not shown to the poll creator or other participants, including how an individual voted.

The account that posted the poll can follow the overall result as votes arrive. That is different from seeing who participated. Do not promise respondents that their activity is invisible to X as a company; the official poll guidance describes what other people using the poll can see.

For the current wording, see X's guide to creating polls and voting.

What can people see in the results?

People can see the poll results, not a list of the people behind each answer. X says the current total vote count and time remaining appear under the options, and results are shown after you vote. When the poll ends, the winning choice is shown in bold.

X says an account can vote in a poll one time. Polls can run for a duration selected by the author, from five minutes to seven days. Check the poll's own timer and current results rather than relying on a screenshot or an old post.

Can activity around the poll identify you?

Your vote is not the same as a public reply or reaction. The privacy statement applies to the poll selection itself. It does not hide other actions you take on the post.

If you reply with your choice, like or repost the poll, or discuss it publicly, that separate activity may be visible under the post or on your profile depending on your account and post settings. Someone may infer your view from what you say, even though the poll does not identify your selection.

Keep those actions separate in your mind: tapping a poll option is private from the creator and participants according to X's poll guide; posting a comment that names your answer is not.

Is your vote private from X itself?

The official poll guide does not say that X never processes poll activity. It says the creator and other participants cannot see who voted or how they voted.

That is a narrower claim than complete anonymity from the platform operator. X's Privacy Policy explains how it handles information about use of its services. Read that policy for questions about platform data, account records or legal requests.

Practical rule: treat an X poll as private from other poll participants, not as a confidential channel for sensitive information.

Is an X poll a confidential survey?

No. A poll is a public post with private individual choices and visible aggregate results. Anyone who can view the post may see the options and the outcome. The poster cannot identify each voter from the standard poll display.

Use a dedicated survey or feedback form when you need informed consent, confidential answers, follow-up contact details or demographic information. Tell people what information is collected and who can access it before they respond.

If your goal is to understand performance, compare poll participation with other measures rather than treating a vote total as proof of broad agreement. Our guide to social media KPIs covers how to read engagement measures in context.

What if you need an identifiable response?

Ask people to respond through a channel where they choose to identify themselves. For example, invite them to reply to the post or use an opt-in form with a clear privacy notice. A public reply can be seen by others, so say that before requesting it.

An X poll is a poor fit if you need to know which person selected each option. The poll shows a result, not a respondent roster. If you only need a quick aggregate preference, the poll format may fit; if you need traceable answers, choose another method.

For a broader overview of the feature, see our X Poll Votes page. Always keep the poll question honest and do not present a poll as a representative survey unless it was designed and sampled that way.

What about civic or election-related polls?

Do not use artificial votes to mislead people about an election or civic process. X's civic integrity policy prohibits using its services to manipulate or interfere with elections and other civic processes.

For civic topics, share accurate information and let people participate freely. Do not buy, coordinate or manufacture responses to make a poll look like public consensus.

Frequently asked questions

Can the person who created an X poll see my vote?

No. X says the creator cannot see who voted or how an individual voted.

Can other people see which option I selected?

Not through the poll itself. Other participants can see aggregate results, but not your named choice.

Can I see who voted in my own poll?

No. The normal poll interface does not provide a named voter list to the person who posted it.

Can I vote more than once?

X says an account can vote one time in a poll.

Does voting stay private if I comment on the poll?

The poll choice is not shown to other participants, but a public reply, like or repost is a separate action and may reveal your view.

Are X polls confidential surveys?

No. Individual choices are hidden from participants, but the post and aggregate results are visible. Use a suitable survey tool for confidential responses.

Bottom line

X hides individual poll choices from the creator and other participants, while showing aggregate results. Treat that as participant-level privacy, not a guarantee that the platform never processes account activity or that the post is confidential.
